The Final Medal Rush
Day 16: Records are falling as the Games enter their final weekend
Today is the last full day of the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics, and the biggest hardware day of the Games. There are 32 medals up for grabs; ten Gold-Silver-Bronze finals, plus Bronze medal games in Men’s Ice Hockey and Women’s Curling. There are just 8 total medals on the final Sunday, so here’s the medal table with 40 left to award.
Unsurprisingly all-time Winter Olympics leader Norway is safely out in front again, and they’ve already broken their own record of most Golds at one Games with their 17th on Friday. By the time you’re reading this, they’ve probably won their 18th in the Men’s Cross Country Skiing 50km Mass Start, where Norwegian GOAT Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo is trying to go 6-for-6 and sweep the Cross Country events.
Below the lofty heights of Valhalla, Italy will try to reclaim second place and several countries are having their best Games ever. Team USA already tied their most golds, and has a shot at breaking their national record 37. Lucas Pinheiro Braathen’s Gold in the Men’s Downhill was not only Brazil’s first medal, it was the first for the entire continent of South America. Japan, France, Switzerland, and Australia have all set high-water marks, and Spain and Great Britain each won two medals on the same day for the first time. Enjoy this final weekend of the Olympics.
